Our Team
Since the beginning, the Laurel Community Center Organization (LCC) has been run by a volunteer Board of Directors. Although some have come and gone over the years, we are forever grateful for the time, energy, love and hard work that the Laurel Community Center Board of Directors, past and present, have put into this organization. LCC also currently has two team members that help assist the BOD with the Center's Mission and day to day operations.

Liz has been a resident of Madison since 2012, and moved to Laurel in 2022. Founder of serval non-profits and active
on numerous boards of youth education, environmental organizations in Madison County/WNC, including Riverlink and Woodson Branch
School. Liz is an avid paddler, WART radio announcer and on the Littersweep committee.

Elizabeth Gullum
President
Mary is a 35-year resident of Shelton Laurel, and holds a Ph.D. in Ecology from UGA. She was the former Coordinator (Director), Ecologist, and community Organizer for W NC Alliance, a grassroots group that reformed widespread clearcutting on Nantahala-Pisgah National Forests, protection of Little Tennessee River, etc. She's also a former adjunct professor of Environmental Studies at UNC Asheville. She is also an experienced organizer of events, publicity, advocacy and grant writing.

Heather has been a resident of Laurel since 2009. She is an artist, potter, blacksmith, and farmer. She was formerly a teacher at a children’s outdoor learning school in Arizona. She also works at a local goat cheese farm and is the artist behind the large mosaic/mural in LCC’s breezeway featuring riparian and stream species. She and her husband also vend at the Laurel Community Market.
Heather West
Secretary
Leah has been a resident of Shelton-Laurel since 2017. She is VP of a company that supports universities in
designing high-quality online degree programs (leader in online learning field for 18 years). She's married to Andrew Davis and together they have four children, and have a small farm with both produce and livestock. They are vendors at the Laurel Community Market. Leah is also the Secretary of the Friends of Hot Springs Library.

Leah Davis
Treasurer
Keith is a native of Laurel and graduate of Laurel High School. He's also a former teacher, coach, administrator and Principal of Laurel Elementary as well as other schools. He is currently on Madison County Board of Education. Keith was formerly employed w/ real estate credentials at Pearson Appraisals, the company contracted to perform the 2020 Madison County property tax reevaluations.

Linda is a long-time resident of Shelton Laurel and graduate of Laurel High School. Her children and grandchild also attended Laurel (Elementary). Linda is currently the manager of the Shelton Laurel Senior Center and Meal Site housed at LCC, a regular poll worker at Laurel Precinct and teaches quilting classes at LCC.

David is a native of Shelton Laurel. He is a former state corrections employee and now a heavy equipment operator. David is also an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He wants to help keep Laurel traditions alive!

Daniel Rice

Lifetime resident of Laurel, Spillcorn area. Attended Laurel Elementary, graduate of Madison High School. Studied Philosophy at Mars Hill College, currently working with the NC Forest as well as a crewman on The Nature Conservancy’s Southern Blue Ridge burn crew focusing on habitat restoration and preservation alongside various agencies such as state fish and wildlife, The US forest service, and parks and recreation. Also, a member of Laurel Volunteer Fire Department.

Resident of the Laurel Community for 25 years. Graduated from Warren Wilson College with a degree in Biology and Chemistry. Talented old time and bluegrass musician most known for playing with The Greasy Beans, now a licensed professional land surveyor in North Carolina. Infrastructure committee.

Tiffany is a writer and full spectrum doula having received her a B.S. in Communication from UNCA and is currently completing her Masters in Education focusing on Social Emotional Health. She spent more than 10 years supporting small businesses and nonprofits with marketing and communications. When she isn't writing and supporting women and families, you can find her on the river and in the forest with her two pups, Lucy and Arlo.

Current Team Members
Cheoah is native of Laurel, attended Laurel Elementary and graduated from Madison High School followed by Berry College's Campbell's School of Business. She is contracted part-time by LCC as an Administrator. She handles administrative duties, bookkeeping, coordinates activities and events, grant implementation, marketing/website/social media, Madison County Welcome Center, and assists with environmental education. Cheoah is also an avid huntress, outdoorswoman, and photographer.
Cheoah Landis
Executive Director
Ed is a native of Shelton Laurel and attending Laurel High School, graduating in 1966. He dedicated many years working at Consumer Electronics in Greeneville, TN before their closure in 2005. Ed works through State of Franklin for the Laurel Community Center where he does janitorial, maintenance, grounds and much more.
