On September 27th, 2024, Hurricane Helene brought devastating amounts of rain and wind to WNC and the Appalachian mountains, causing tremendous flooding, landslides, and tree fall like we have never seen before. Many lives were lost, homes and businesses destroyed, as well as landscapes and lives changed forever. While Laurel for the most part was spared, members of the Laurel Community jumped into action to serve as a resource hub for our community as well as all the surround areas that were hit even harder. We will before ever grateful for the numerous volunteers that stepped up to make this all possible, the countless loads of donated supplies from all around the country, the monetary donations, and most of all the support of our community as we paused regular programming to be a resource for our neighbors when they needed us most. Also, special thanks to the Laurel Fire Department and members of National Guard who helped our community in more ways than we can count. Thank you all!
